Meet the Photographer

Hugo Burnand

Hugo Burnand, known for capturing iconic personalities, is the first-ever official royal portrait photographer for the British Royal Family, officially awarded in 2023.

Born in 1963 in Cannes, France, Hugo’s love for photography started young as he learned the art of print photography from his stepmother, Ursy Burnand. With years of dedication, he perfected his unique ability to capture history and society through incredible imagery, creating his legacy as one of the generation’s greatest portrait photographers.

For over 20 years, Hugo worked as the society photographer at ‘Tatler and House & Garden Magazines’, shooting everything from high-profile events to intimate portraits.

Over the years, his reputation grew and he has become most known for capturing royalty, world leaders, and celebrities, including Bill Clinton, Mikhail Gorbachev, Baroness Thatcher, Lucian Freud, Victoria Beckham, and Michael Jackson.

He captured the Royal family’s attention in 2005, when he photographed the wedding of King Charles III and Camilla. This opened the door to a long-standing relationship and since then, he’s been behind the lens of some of their biggest milestones.

Hugo was commissioned to photograph the late Queen Elizabeth, King Charles’ 60th and 70th birthday celebrations, and has also received the opportunity to capture more momentous occasions like Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding day in 2011.

Most recently, in 2023, Hugo has captured the first digitally recorded coronation of King Charles III, and in that same year, he was granted a Royal Warrant, making him the British Royal family’s official portrait photographer.

With decades of experience and a portfolio full of renowned imagery, Hugo Burnand has become known not just for photographing big names, but for telling their stories through powerful, beautifully composed portraits.
